Body Psychotherapy

What is Body (Somatic) Psychotherpy?

Body psychotherapy is a somatic approach to wellbeing that recognises the deep, inseparable connection between mind and body. It embraces the whole human.

Body psychotherapy understands that what we experience in life isn’t just held in our thoughts - it’s also stored and expressed through the body.

While many traditional forms of therapy help you understand your thoughts and behaviour, they often ignore the language of the body. Your body isn’t just a vessel for your mind to control - it is you. It’s a living, breathing organism with its own story, language, and needs. When personal growth ignores such a significant part of ourselves, it’s common to reach a point where insight alone no longer creates meaningful change.

Anxiety, low mood, muscle tension, poor posture, shallow or restricted breathing, chronic pain, illness, or a general sense of being disconnected from your physical self can all be signs that your system isn’t functioning as well as it could - and that you’re not living with as much joy, vitality and ease as you could be.

Body therapy combines talk therapy with the latest research on trauma, nervous system regulation, attachment, and mental wellbeing, alongside somatic awareness, relational therapy, and body-based practices.

If you want deep and lasting change in your life, body therapy may be for you.

What to expect in a Body Psychotherapy Session?

Your first session:

Our first meeting together is a chance for us to gently explore:

  • What’s been happening for you

  • How it feels for us to be together

  • How we might work together

  • What you would like for yourself

Everything within your session is tailored to you. Our work may involve:

  • Talk therapy

  • Gentle movement

  • Body awareness exercises

  • Breathing or grounding practices

Everything is an invitation and is always paced to your comfort.

Ongoing sessions:

Your ongoing sessions are guided by curiosity and presence. I listen to what you want for yourself, what you bring to the session, and what your body may be communicating it needs.

I care deeply about getting to know you and supporting you to nourish your relationship with yourself, your body, and your life.

Sessions will look different depending on your needs and we will always move at a pace that feels comfortable and safe for you.

I practices a particular type of Body Psychotherapy called Core Energetics. Core Energetics is a body-based therapeutic approach founded by John Pierrakos. It draws from psychology, bioenergetics, Freudian and Jungian theory, and integrates a strong spiritual framework.

Core Energetics looks at the unconscious reasons you keep repeating the same patterns - emotionally, physically, and energetically - and works with the body to shift them. We use movement, sound, breath, and structured exercises to access what’s underneath your everyday coping mechanisms.

This approach combines deep emotional work with the latest in trauma resolution, nervous system awareness, and spiritual connection. It’s challenging, powerful, and transformative - and best suited to people who are committed to real change.

If you’re ready to stop circling around your stuff and actually move through it, this is the work for you.

I am currently a student body psychotherapist at the Institute of Body Psychotherapy and am offering discounted sessions at $70 an hour.
